Project Description

Replacement of the Capitol Lift Station with an at-grade lift station.  Includes removal of can, pump and interior piping replacement, and new valve chamber to eliminate confined space.

Project Justification

In 2023 the Town contracted with AECOM to perform a condition assessment of all Town owned sanitary sewer lift stations.  The assessment of the Capitol Lift Station resulted in a recommendation to fully replace the lift station.  Capitol Lift Station is a below-grade dry well-wet well station that was constructed in 1972.  The station is generally in poor condition overall.  The wet well has little grease buildup and some degradation on the interior wall surface from gases.  Not only is there surface damage there are signs of infiltration.  Stains, weepers and deposits are visible throughout the wet well.  There is significant corrosion on the pump suction piping in the wet well.  The structural integrity of the ladder in the wet well is very poor.  There are visible signs of corrosion and on the 4th and 5th rungs from the bottom have portions missing.  The pumps are in fair condition despite their age and are producing approximately 85% of their rated capacity.  There is minor corrosion on the flange kit hardware on the Pump No. 2 discharge fittings and there is insufficient length of exposed bolt threads in a number of locations on these flanged fittings.
