Project Description

The Trimble R980 with Trimble TIP technology provides superior performance and productivity in challenging environments, such as under trees and near buildings. It delivers RTK-level accuracy with real-time correction via satellite, enabling precise point collection and stakeout without the need to level the survey pole. This purchase includes a high-precision GNSS receiver and a compatible field data controller, forming a complete GNSS surveying system for real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning and geospatial data collection.

Project Justification

The R980 will replace our current Trimble R2 unit, which is no longer supported and is being phased out. The new GNSS system—including updated receiver and compatible data controller—will ensure we have current hardware and software for field data collection. The R980 is essential for tasks such as grade checks, topographic surveys, and construction staking. As the need for survey-grade data collection increases, this system will be shared across multiple departments. Currently, six to eight staff members collect field data at any given time, making updated and reliable equipment critical for operational efficiency. IT Department has reviewed and approved this technology equipment purchase.
